‘Going up higher’

Getting off the very busy N2 at Stormsvlei ,we immediately disconnect and meander the way along this quiet winding dirt road. Then travelling straight through the little dust town called Mc Gregor, heading towards the majestic moutains ahead . Finally the car in lower gears eagerly singing and gripping its way high up a very steep narrow road, constantly curving until you arrive, opening the door to a silent mountain breeze, and a jaw dropping view of the craggy cliffs down to the valleys below. You have arrived, ‘Heavens view Mountain lodge’ the place and its incredible people that became one of our spiritual bases.

Yes I had to paint the experience, this is a new work . Just below this painting you will see a smaller study of the same work that I painted early in 2022. This work and its story behind it, has yet not come to its end. I will soon start on a third addition to this collection. As I worked on this last one, I experienced another creative release to this work that came very unexpectely…

Towards the storm

This is an old work of about 20 years ago that has now come up for resale. It is inspired by the old big tuskers that roamed the Africa plains. For me growing up frequenting fine art galleries since a kid, and seeing my father make sculptures often times from his love of nature and wildlife evidently rubbed of on me. People like David Shephard and Paul Bosman inspired me then in making a selection of wildlife works.
